The Wounds of God

a Good Friday conversation
7

“Jesus continues to die before our eyes; his death has not ended. He suffers wherever people are tormented…. Insofar as we forget the continued dying of Jesus in the present we deny the passion itself.”
Dorothee Soëlle

The guys and I* discuss the texts for Good Friday, especially Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22, and consider how to speak of God’s wounds in the hearing of those who have been wounded.

*I’d planned for a more diverse panel, and for obvious reasons a conversation like this one needs a chorus of voices, but unfortunately it ended up just the six of us—the Unholy Sextant. I’ll be hosting other conversations that fill out a bit more of the missing parts of the circle, and next time we do a high holy day panel (Pentecost!?!), I’ll do a better job of planning.
