Cherith Nordling Fee, Bradley Jersak and I discuss how the judgment of God exposes, purifies, illuminates, and transfigures so we come to know as we are known.
The sinful woman, having freely received now freely gives. I was struck thinking about how she was giving of herself to Jesus through physical expression of love and gratitude in a way that though it was misinterpreted by those around her, was now innocent of sexual sin, cleansed from the manipulation, exploitation, and abuse of her body (by others AND herself), and delivered from any sense of shame.
I kept thinking about the garden, and the shame of nakedness that drove Adam and Eve to avoid God
And here “Eve” is throwing herself at Jesus, overwhelmed by love and gratitude, completely free of shame and fear of punishment.
