David’s comment about his wife’s observation about ‘ethnic cleansing’ in the stories. Yes indeed! It was precisely this, reading the ‘children’s illustrated Bible as a ten year old that turned me into an Atheist (I started to recover 20-30 later when I met Jesus and people who asked the kind of good questions you asked in this program). We soooo need skilled pastoral teachers to work with children. and not present over simplified clap trap. Children can smell a rat. I never spoke up at the time, of course, as many children will not. They will just experience the terrible sinking feeling associated with reading biblical stories of violence without very wise guidance.

Thank you for this one. I very much enjoyed listening to this, especially the emphasis on reading the stories in scripture as stories. Stunning the insight about Peter’s escape from prison and the guards dying and Paul staying put for his guards.
