Dear Fr. Chris, did you ever read anything by Ruth Burrows? Your reflections of late are more adjacent to her writings I feel, and when you mentioned Thérèse of Lisieux here I was reminded of this. Just a thought. God bless!

Only a little. A friend insisted I start!

I found her writings demanding and harsh at first, but she really stands out to me as being the biggest encouragement in the face of depression or anxiety, since she has so consistently had those be features in her own life, and it has helped her see past many illusions about God, I believe.

Thank you for this Bishop Chris! Powerful and deeply moving for me.

Also, can you tell me any detail about the icon of Christ that you used above? Christ the Good Shepherd? Perhaps a Coptic icon?

I have been deeply impacted by this. To sit and contemplate that our feeble love can co-suffer with our Beloved, that we are called to be His companions in going to the suffering and having Him do what only He can. I am undone.

In the Passion Translation, in Luke 14:27, “And anyone who comes to Me must be willing to share My cross and experience it as his own, or you cannot be considered one of My disciples.”

Thank you.
